Integrated Environmental Pty Ltd is proud to have successfully completed the remediation of two future park sites as part of the Burwood Council Park Expansion Projects, located in Strathfield and Enfield, NSW.
This project represents our commitment to supporting local government in transforming underutilised and potentially contaminated land into safe, accessible, and sustainable public open space.
Project Snapshot
- Client: Burwood Council
- Locations: Russell Street, Strathfield Portland Street, Enfield
- Scope: Demolition, new footpaths and lighting, contaminated land remediation and validation
- Objective: Demolish dwellings on the sites. Prepare both sites for future parkland development
Key Remediation Works
Following preliminary environmental investigations, both sites were identified to contain contaminated fill, including asbestos-containing materials (ACM) and elevated levels of heavy metals.
Integrated Environmental carried out:
- Site characterisation and soil sampling
- Controlled excavation and offsite disposal of hazardous materials
- Implementation of Class B asbestos removal controls
- Dust suppression, erosion, and sediment control throughout
- Installation of new footpaths and fencing
- Installation of new solar lighting and drainage.
- Collection of validation samples to confirm compliance with NEPM (2013)
- Final Site Validation Reports prepared for Council and development consultants
Project Challenges
Working adjacent to residential areas and public roadways, the project required careful planning to:
- Maintain public safety and minimal disruption
- Manage waste under NSW EPA waste classification and tracking protocols
- Coordinate with stakeholders, including Council, environmental auditors, and construction teams
Project Outcome
Both park expansion sites were successfully remediated and validated, with all contaminated soil removed and validation results confirming the land is suitable for future public use.
This work allows Burwood Council to proceed with the delivery of expanded green spaces for local residents—creating healthier, safer communities.
